History

The Midland Junction Poultry Society is the second oldest Poultry Club in Western Australia. The club was established on 18 April 1911 as the Midland Junction Poultry and Caged Bird Society. The Society held its first show on 27 and 28 July 1911.  The second Championship Show was held on 26 & 27 July 1912.

Two shows were cancelled during the First World War years because an old show schedule from 1918 promotes the society’s annual show as the sixth show. This show  was held in the Empire Theatre, Helena Street, Midland. The Show was held over two days, Wednesday and Thursday on the tenth and eleventh of July. The catalogues, listing 237 entries, were sold for three pence and the major sponsor was Boans Brothers. First prize-winner entries of ten or over received ten shillings and second place received five shillings. Cups were also given if won twice in succession or three times in all by the same exhibitor but it is unclear if it was for best of breed or just best bird and reserve in show. The cups were valued at five guineas.

The society went into recession during the depression years until 1954 when Trevor Scatine and Robert Brock re-established it. Starting with just twelve pounds in the then Commercial Bank of Australia, the society held its meetings and demonstration nights in the garage of Robert Brock and its show was held in the poultry shed in Swan View, a suburb of Midland Junction.

Several years later the name of the club was changed to Midland Junction Poultry Society. and incorporated in 1993.

Increasing entries led to the annual show moving to the Claremont showgrounds, with entries varying between 700-1000 birds. The committee meetings and demonstration evenings were conducted in Midvale Hall.

In 1995, the society moved to the Brock Pavilion, Brown Park, Swan View where all activities are now held.
